Brindavan

Description

Rika Ishige’s Brindavan for flute sextet (3 flutes doubling piccolo, 2 c flutes, and alto flute) contains two contrasting movements of passion and aggression. The first offers solos, especially for the alto flute, where the second movement deals with quick-moving tuplets and shimmers of sound.

Brindavan is a harem in India, evoking an image of fountains and lush gardens. The arpeggiation of the flutes suggests falling water.
