With its quickly shifting time signatures, abrupt tempo changes, and clever rhythmic ideas, Alliances is a workout for the two players. By turns in exact unison, in rhythmic but not pitch unison, and in counter-ideas, the two instruments pull apart and join back together – hence the title.
