Rodney Rogers’ delicate, transparent April Hello, for flute and piano, is one of the rare examples of accessible and ultra-beautiful quasi-aleatoric contemporary music. Reminiscent of Boyd’s Goldfish through Summer Rain, small delicate notes in the piano pass under and around the flute’s interjections, before the two switch places, merge, and part again. A stunning encore piece.
