A Robot for a Friend

Description

Carter’s A Robot for a Friend, written for the National Flute Association’s 2014 High School Soloist Competition, is for solo flute with an optional electronic accompaniment.

In this score, the term ‘robot’ does not refer to a human-shaped metal object that walks and talks. Instead, it refers to the algorithms that extract features from sound, select what information to display, and suggest what music we should listen to. We have a mostly friendly relationship with these robots, but sometimes they lie.

The optional electronic accompaniment is not included and is available directly from the composer.
