Description

Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji’s Vocalise, inspired by Ravel and Rachmaninoff’s own, earlier Vocalises, joins the flute repertoire alongside the likes of Schwantner’s Black Anemones and Beaser’s Old Men Admiring Themselves.

Sorabji’s Vocalise, which should be performed ‘dans un style fantastique et quasi oriental’ [in a fantastic and almost Oriental style] features long, highly ornamented passages over the beautiful, multi-faceted and multi-lined piano accompaniment Sorabji is so known for. Deep flairs of that Ravel-esque oriental writing emerge through every flourish, and the piano gentle shimmers throughout.
