Arabesque

Description

The Sorabji Arabesque, written to a text by Shamsu’d-Din Ibrahim Mirza and here presented for flute and piano, is an brief, early example of the several aphoristic piano works that Sorabji was to write in later years. Nonetheless, this quasi-nocturne’s sensuous and capricious chromatic lines explore similar territory to Sorabji’s earlier Vocalise; a somewhat exotic musical language is to be performed ‘with a precious and exquisite delicacy.’
