Description
‘The Alborada arrives like a meteor from its colorful country of origin, with its lashing accents and earthy rhythms’, wrote Helen Lourdan-Morhange, noted violinist and close friend of Ravel. With it, Ravel broke abruptly with the so-called ‘Impressionistic’ style of Debussy and created an original, percussive soundscape that imitates Spanish guitar playing. The piece is incisive, intensely rhythmic, supremely virtuosic and infectiously melodic.
This version for two flutes and piano, arranged by the noted performer and editor Robert Stallman, is a brilliant tour de force for flute duet.
