Maurice Verheul presents Viam somnia No. 2, for bass flute alone.

The Viam somnia takes much from Ravel’s Daphnis; impressionistic, swirling water effects are filtered through an icier Nordic language in virtuosic streams of notes. The bass flute’s deep, hypnotic sound emphasizes the dreamlike qualities of the piece, and as the swirls of notes dissolve it ends with a simple statement of the underlying melody.
