Description

Bechara El-Khoury, composer and poet, presents this series of seven miniatures for flute, clarinet in Bb, and piano written on seminal painters and artists.

Each miniature, while distinct, is flavored with El-Khoury’s uniquely dark combination of Lebanese and French languages. For example, Cezanne, the fourth movement, pairs El-Khoury’s thicker harmonies with the thick impressionism Cezanne is so known for, while the seventh movement, Kandinsky, shifts rapidly between time signatures and passes melodic lines between instruments in a musical stylization of Kandinsky’s bold, explosive strangeness.
