Extracted by the composer from Alexander Goehr’s opera Sing, Ariel, this solo for alto flute pieces together the most delicate and the most divine moments to create an intriguing example of 21st Century operatic potpourri. Steeped with Goehr’s particular serial language – that is, serial yet flowing with milky shimmer and distinctly tonal utterings, mutterings that sing with clear, distinct melody through multiple voices and ideas.
