3 American Folksongs

Description

While Paul Hindemith was on tour in the United States in 1938 his American publishers asked him to write some little pieces for recorders to serve as a model for other composers. At that point Hindemith already had over ten years experience composing for children and amateur musicians and was happy to accept the commission. He decided to base these little pieces on melodies from the American folksong repertoire that would already be familiar to players.
Although Hindemith’s Three American Folksongs for Recorder Trio were delivered to his publisher just a few days after completion, these recorder trios have not been published until 2009.
