Description
Juam Maria Solare’s Auswandern [Emigrating], for C flute quartet, was written in October and November 2015. The language of the music is tonal, post-tonal and mainly consonant. In stylistic terms, the pieces comes close to tango music. However, it is not ‘dance music’, but a concert piece.
The work consists of three movements, with a total duration of 11 minutes. The first movement, Erwartungen (Expectations), has a milonga rhythm and is based on whole-tone scales. The second movement, Ruckblick (Looking back), is melodically expressive, in moderate tempo. The third movement, Integration, is a resolute fugue – a construction principle that optimally represents the integration and equality of all the parts, based on octatonic scales.
The three parts focus on three aspects in the life of an immigrant from a personal perspective: the search for a new country, connected with a certain excited anticipation of a new beginning, then a moment of nostalgia and a backward glance to country of origin and, finally, a phase of integration in the adopted country.
For late intermediate or early advanced players.
