The Ballet is a strange little creature, existing as it does as an intersection between charming encore and a true concours piece. The beginning and ending sections are both delightful little tunes – though with sly harmonic and melodic bites scattered throughout – that introduces the large central cadenza without piano; a cadenza impressionistic (yet dark) in nature, with singing lines throughout. A curious combination of entertaining and beautiful.
