Canzona

Description

Willy Burkhard’s Canzona op. 76a, for two flutes (or flute and oboe) and piano (or organ), is a single-movement lament that builds in technical complexity and grand, large moments over its span. Though it’s full of dark harmonies throughout, the central Allegretto section builds in modern Stravinsky-esque strangeness until the return to the opening lament.
