Castandelle

Description

Jean Meyer’s Castandelle, for flute quartet, is a miniature suite in four movements.

Though the structure of the piece is fairly straightforward – Prelude, Rondo, Menuet, and Final – Meyer takes the opportunity to play with more contemporary sounds against the traditional melodic palette. The first movement begins with harsher harmonic ideas, but as the piece progresses they become more and more tonal and traditionally lovely.
