Weihnachts-Sonatine

Description

Carl Reinecke’s Weihnachts-Sonatine, Op. 251/3, blends themes from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Handel’s Messiah (Every valley shall be exalted) with traditional Christmas carols ‘Silent Night, Holy Night,’ ‘Vom Himmel hoch,’ and ‘O du frohliche.’ Originally a work for solo piano and later arranged by famed violinst and composer Hans Sitt, this edition of the Weihnachts-Sonatine is a welcomed addition to the alto flute repertoire and an excellent choice for the Advent and Christmas seasons. The work can be performed in its entirety, or also as three separate pieces by playing the sections (quasi-movements) individually.
