Favio Nieder presents Weihnachtsschmuck fur Philipp Walcher… for flute alone, and Waldgschroa for flute alone with optional metallic percussion.

These two pieces are both intensely Nieder, marked with his aggressive language – forceful even in the pianissimo. The Weihnachtsschmuck, written as an hommage to F.X. Gruber, displays Nieder’s taste in a solo showpiece; huge intervallic leaps and quick staccato are in full force. The Waldgschroa is a more headily luminescent entity; playable either as a deeply pathos-ridden flute solo or accompanied by metallic percussion emerging through space, it explores tonal shifts and ghostly whisps of melody.
